How do EFL university student-writers prepare their draft? An analysis of writing strategy use in EFL writing instruction

The use of writing strategy across levels in a virtual EFL course was still rarely found the literature. To fill this gap, therefore, current research aims at exploring instruction. Informed by framework descriptive case study, university student-writers who regularly attended academic filled out online inventory (Yang & Plakans, 2012) and submitted argumentative essays. findings show that diverse levels. At stage before drafting essay, all reread task requirement understood type essay organization, searched for valid references, tried to avoid plagiarism. Moreover, with higher also summarized ideas, analyzed sentences contents, made plan. they double checked requirement, revised sample texts, provided arguments. However, student-writer lowest level not used those strategies. after drafting, applied similar several them added new points from lecture. level, strategies were applied. This may indicate have awareness effectively improve their essay. Then, it can be drawn conclusion more during score quality possibly achieved.
